Why is everything on Mastadon about banning people and speech they don’t like?

Social media is premised on an illusion: that the people whose text-streams end up in your feed are somehow part of your in-group, and thus need to be policed like a middle school kissing party.

This is one reason why everyone doesn’t want to join the Fediverse. Alternatives may be intolerable, but so is being judged constantly for political alignment. It’s exhausting, and at the end of the day, people don’t want it or need it.

That’s why I don’t participate in any social media. At best, I leave anonymous posts on blogs. Most of them are held for moderation purposes, or disappear up the intestines of some badly designed, anti-Tor javascript function.

Why would I want something more intimate when faced with swarms of self-appointed do-gooders who seem to think that they, and only they, have insight into the one true political religion? I’d rather be alone with my thoughts, away from everyone.
