There’s a very practical reason that there’s no built-in monetization in Owncast. Some people want to use PayPal, some people want to use LiberaPay, some people want to use Dogecoin, some people want to use Stripe, some want people to sign up to their Patreons. For every person, there’s another, entirely different, way they want to collect money. It’s a very personal choice.

Some people say, “just pick one”. I’m sure you think that’s as terrible of an idea as I do.

It’s easy for Twitch because they are the payment processor. They take the money, and they distribute the money. There’s no option there. When you’re decentralized, there is no standardized choice.
