Spoutible Introduces Cross-Posting to Mastodon and Bluesky

A welcome gesture from an independent platform

Spoutible, one of the many platforms that emerged after Elon Musk set Twitter on fire, has introduced cross-platform posting to Mastodon. Christopher Bouzy, the company’s CEO, made the announcement from his account on December 3rd, 2023.

So far, the decision seems to have met positive responses from most users on Spoutible, with several people expressing appreciation. For the time being, ActivityPub adoption doesn’t appear to be on the table, but cross-posting might be the next best thing. Given the level of moderation and quality control that Spoutible currently appreciates, this makes sense.

For the time being, it appears that Spoutible is only sticking to a few large Mastodon servers, such as mastodon.social and mastodon.online. However, when asked about the possibility of opening up integration for more servers, Bouzy indicated that he was “not opposed” to the idea.

In addition to Mastodon, the platform also supports cross-posting to Bluesky, and is considering adding support for Threads as well. Sure, it’s not native support for either ActivityPub or ATproto, but maybe it’s an opportunity for their users to dip their toes into decentralized social networks, even just to try it out a little.
