We’ve Joined Nos Social’s Journalism Accelerator!

To new horizons!

In pursuit of our mission, we have partnered with Nos Social as part of their Journalism Accelerator Program. This will allow us to reach a new audience, explore Nostr further, and spread our coverage of other networks to the Nostr community. We’re thrilled to be taking part in this, as it gives us an opportunity to grow, learn, and expand our reach.

The accelerator is fairly straightforward. The main thing of value that we are being given is promotion within the Nos app’s discovery tab, our content will get boosted, and some of our articles might get included in a newsletter. No money is changing hands, we’re not changing our topics of reporting to conform to the program, and we’re free to air whatever pieces we want.

This isn’t going to change our regular coverage of the Fediverse, or diminish our presence there. It’s a new avenue of distribution that we hope will gain new readership, and new discourse that will help in the exchange of ideas. We’re in the unique position to bring our expertise of the Fediverse to a place that works very differently.

Why Are We Doing This?

Here at We Distribute, we’re passionate about covering the shift and evolution of decentralized, federated, and peer-to-peer social networks. The tech is super interesting to us, but the larger story has always been what that technology makes possible.

Beyond tech, we’re dedicated to reporting on the people building this network, and the people who use it. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our scope to provide a look at the great and not-so-great developments in this space. There’s a lot going on, and there’s only going to be more of it.

We’ve started to offer coverage of Bluesky, Nostr, and Solid as part of our news cycle. We believe that these different things offer unique and novel approaches to solving common problems that every decentralized network struggles with. We’re all tackling different pieces of the puzzle, in an effort to make the Social Web a viable alternative to the one owned by Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, and Google.

We like what Nos Social is doing, and have found that our values are very much in alignment with what their team is trying to do: connecting people across a growing network, aiding in the process of discovery, and helping people avoid the worst of the worst on the network. They want to help make peer-to-peer social networking palatable and accessible to everyday people, and that’s a motive we can get behind.

How to Follow Us on Nostr

Our NIP-05 address is the same as this blog’s ActivityPub handle: news@wedistribute.org. You can use that address, or our NPub value of npub1w9wuqc3s6lr25c4sgj52werj3tngvt43qrccqrher4wvn7tjm32s2ck403, and it will show up in your Nostr app of choice.

As seen in Primal, a Web client.

You can also skip the lookup, and find us directly on NJump instead. This will allow you to find us in your app of choice.
