There’s a lot of great music and art on our little network. In an effort to promote more of it, create good times, and support one another, our friends over at NHAM and RadioFreeFedi are throwing a virtual music festival this week, and it’s open to everyone. The Owncast live stream is presented as “a raid” where different operators run different blocks of the show. In a sense, the virtual festival is itself distributed, with viewers directed to different domains to participate in different blocks of the show.

Sam Attard, founder of NHAM, had this to say:

NHAM exists to promote the amazing musical talent on fair platforms in The Fediverse. We already regularly promote new releases, hot tracks and mixtapes, as well as putting on live gigs and listening parties, all of which can be found in your Fedi feed by following @nham.

The range and depth of talent is so great that we’ve decided to put on an extra special 24 hour event to showcase just some of it in one extravaganza. The full schedule can be found at fest.nham.co.uk with various ‘stages’ around the world being used – all with a chat room open for people to congregate, whoop, cheer and get dizzily high on the wealth of talent in the Fedi music scene.

It’s free to come on in. You can join the chat or just quietly watch and listen along so do pop by! The festival wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm and hard work of the (n)hamster from Radio Free Fedi so our eternal gratitude goes out to him and of course to all of the brilliant and diverse artists involved.

The Lineup

So far, there’s some pretty big acts attached to the lineup, including some favorite voices from the Radio Free Fedi days, including Doctor Deathray, Futzle, sknob, bgm, Meljoann, Shannon Curtis, and Jamie Hill, and that’s just a handful of the people involved! This event aims to put an insane amount of talent on display through this volunteer effort.

There are also performances that go beyond music, including a broadcast from The Insect Insights, community animation work from Animation Array, and even a presentation from Gabe Kangas of the Owncast project.

How to Join

The main place to visit is the NHAMFest popup site, which provides a comprehensive schedule and links for each programming block, along with which musicians or creators are involved. For those trying to keep their ears to the ground and know exactly when the festival begins, do these four things:

1. Follow Radio Free Fedi – Their social account is heavily involved in promoting the event
2. Follow NHAM – They regularly are on top of reviewing and promoting the music of the Fediverse! You can follow their instance from @nham@nham.co.uk
3. Boost this Post – Help RFF maximize reach in promoting the event!
4. Mark Your Calendars – To assist the efforts, we’ve put this event into our calendar system. You can download it to your own calendar, which will help keep you in the loop!
