Decentered S1E1: Creation and Discovery
This podcast has been a long-time coming. Damon, Laurens, and I have been hard at work interviewing all kinds of people building for the Fediverse, and after hours and hours of interviews, we’ve finally started publishing episodes.
Decentered is our attempt to shine a light on all of the amazing things happening across the network: it’s a place where we talk to some of the brightest minds developing amazing concepts, and their vision of what’s possible. Join us as we cover what’s going on in the network, and what we’re all making together!
Brief Overview
In our inaugural episode, we focus on the following:
- People are unhappy with Substack’s policies regarding Nazi content, and are looking for alternatives. What does the Fediverse offer today that might appeal to those who want to make the switch?
- One pain point is the fact that Mastodon is still the de facto standard for ActivityPub implementations, and it doesn’t yet do a great job with supporting long-form content or any activity that isn’t a status update.
- We discuss the nature of how the network has changed over time, to the point that you can subscribe to George Takei, Popular Mechanics, and ESPN sports via the Fediverse now.
- We talked some about the situation with Meta, and how this may be a tipping point for other platforms like Tumblr or Flickr to justify adopting ActivityPub themselves.
- And much more!
@news I think someone needs to fix their mime types 🙂
Hey, happy to look into it. Could you elaborate a little bit more on what you mean by that? 🙂
