Show Notes

  • Our delay on this new season took so long that Sean grew a beard!
  • This event features several keynote speakers: Ian Forrester, Cory Doctorow, Christine Lemmer-Webber, and Laurens Hof!
  • Check out Christine’s work on Spritely!
  • Effective advocacy remains one of the biggest blockers to getting people on the network. Bluesky nails this when it comes to making an easy value proposition that isn’t too complicated.
  • Why did Bluesky build their own protocol instead of building on ActivityPub? A big part was the Fediverse’s culture, but they also wanted to design from first principles, rather than try bolting everything on to ActivityPub.
  • We talk about the controversy that delayed FediForum. It’s really unfortunate, but we think Johannes did the right thing, and put in a lot of work to make the organization better.
  • Christine’s blog post about AT proto: https://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky/
