Pixelfed announces Pixelfed Labs, launches new initiatives

Pixelfed, the federated, open alternative to photo stream apps such as Instagram, announced recently that they will be launching a community org and incubator dedicated to a number of initiatives.

Dan, the project lead and main developer, had this to say:

“Pixelfed Labs will be establishing working groups to tackle a wide range of issues and topics related to pixelfed and social media.”

The new initiatives include, but aren’t limited to:

  • The development of experimental features (Micro UI comes to mind)
  • Establish working groups to improve the core project for things involving Abuse Prevention, Accessibility, Privacy, Youth Safety, and Dark Pattern Prevention
  • Lower the barrier of entry for new developers by making contributing to the project easier.

For now, the organization can be found on Github as well as Mastodon. They can also be reached at -labs on irc.freenode.net. We’re excited to see what comes out of this!
